For 4-12 year olds

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Museum of Natural Sciences invites families to an afternoon of flight with Flight & Fun. The event is based on the FLIGHT exhibition and offers a varied programme, between discovery, manipulation, workshop, game trail and spectacular activities in the museum’s garden.
The idea is simple and effective: to offer children several ways to enter the theme, without limiting the outing to a simple visit to the exhibition. Between birds, insects, bats, planes, helicopters and drones, the world of FLIGHT immediately speaks to the youngest and gives the afternoon a real breath of adventure.
A family outing around flying
The programme on 27 May is aimed at several age groups.
Families can visit the FLIGHT exhibition, follow the FLIGHT route designed for 7-12 year olds, then take part in the Ready to fly workshop organised from 2pm to 3.30pm for children aged 7 to 12 accompanied by an adult.
Another activity, Raconte-moi un oiseau, is planned from 2:30 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. for 4-7 year olds accompanied by an adult. On this day, the bird in the spotlight is the hornbill.
The afternoon also takes on a very visual dimension in the garden of the Institute.
From 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., children can participate in the collective construction of a giant mechanical bird, continuously and free of charge. In the same niche, mechanical birds with a wingspan of 4 meters move along a 50-meter cable. It is the highlight of the event, while keeping a fun and creative background.
Flight demonstrations are scheduled subject to favorable weather.
Why this outing appeals to families
What works particularly well here is the mix of formats. Children can observe, listen, test, craft and move throughout the afternoon. The little ones have their own dedicated entertainment, the older ones too, and the continuous highlights allow you to enjoy the event even without building the entire outing around a single workshop.

Our opinion
It’s the kind of outing that we easily recommend for a Wednesday afternoon with the family in Brussels: the theme speaks to children, the program is varied, and the museum manages to offer both intelligent content and real fun moments. For families who like cultural activities without being too academic, Flight & Fun clearly ticks the right boxes
