In the parks of the 19 Brussels municipalities
From July 6 to August 21, 2026

Stories read by librarians, in the open air
Every summer, “Lire dans les Parcs” sets up outdoor reading moments in Brussels parks. The principle is simple: librarians and animators from public libraries come to read stories to children, directly in the parks, with a selection of books and albums adapted to different ages.
From 6 July to 21 August 2026, the readings are back in the parks of the 19 Brussels municipalities. The meetings are free and take place according to a common program by municipality, with schedules that vary according to the place and the day.
It’s a very easy outing to integrate into the holidays: you come to listen to a story, discover new albums, take a break in the park and leave when the children feel like it.
Why go with your family?
Because the format is very clear and very simple with children. We don’t come for a long supervised activity, but for a moment of reading in the open air, led by librarians or animators.
The sessions are designed for children: the little ones enjoy the voice, the images and the atmosphere, while the older ones can discover new books in a freer setting than school or the library.
The only point to check before leaving is the time of the session in the chosen municipality, because the readings are not held at the same time in all the parks.
Don’t miss
Outdoor readings
The sessions are designed as moments of shared reading. Children can listen to stories, discover albums and enjoy quieter time in the middle of the holidays.
The parks of the 19 Brussels municipalities
The interest of Lire dans les Parcs is also its itinerant format. The readings are spread out in the municipalities of Brussels, which makes it possible to find an appointment near your home or to discover a new park.
A perfect activity during the school holidays
Between two courses, a day at the park or an afternoon without a programme, Lire dans les Parcs is a very good option to offer a free and cultural outing to children.
The pleasure of reading differently
The event gives books a different place: less academic, freer, more summery. It’s a great way to connect reading, imagination and the moment outside.
