IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
All audiences, from 10 years old

A virtual reality journey to the heart of the Universe
From 24 September 2026, the Mysteries of the Cosmos experience invites the public to leave the Earth without leaving Brussels.Installed at Tour & Taxis, this virtual reality experience takes us to the stars, galaxies and the most spectacular phenomena of the Universe.
We put on a VR headset, then the journey begins at the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory. Guided by a virtual character named Astro, the participants then board the most powerful space telescopes.
The experiment was developed with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory using real astronomical data. For about 40 minutes, we get close to the Sun, explore an exoplanet, witness the explosion of a star and venture to the edge of a supermassive black hole.
The mysteries of the cosmos in 5 points
- A fully interactive virtual reality experience, in which you move freely.
- A 40-minute journey through stars, planets, galaxies and black holes.
- Images inspired by Smithsonian research and observations by Hubble, James Webb and Chandra.
- An adventure shared in groups of up to six people, during which participants can see each other in the form of avatars.
- An experience accessible from 10 years old, particularly interesting with older children and teenagers curious about science and space.
Why we like it
- We like the mix between immersion, scientific discovery and adventure. Here, we don’t just observe projections: we move freely, we interact with the environment and we share the experience with the other members of the group.
- The trip is based on real astronomical data and allows you to explore the Sun, an exoplanet, a supernova or the surroundings of a black hole. A particularly interesting experience with older children and teenagers curious about science and space.
The team’s opinion
We think this experience is a very good idea for an outing with older children and teenagers, especially if they like space and science. For 40 minutes, they don’t stay in front of a screen: they move around, interact with the environment and share the adventure with the other participants.
The scientific content brings a real plus. We discover the Universe in a spectacular way, while relying on real astronomical data.
