The Brussels Ommegang<\/strong> is one of the major historical events of the summer. For a few days, the centre of Brussels<\/a> is immersed in the era of Charles V<\/strong> with a procession, Renaissance costumes<\/strong>, horses<\/strong>, flags, ancient music, a market, jousting and a show on the Grand-Place<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

The evening show<\/strong><\/a> is the most impressive moment, with a great historical re-enactment in an exceptional setting. It starts late and is especially suitable for older children<\/strong> and teenagers<\/strong><\/a>. With young children, the free activities at the Sablon<\/a><\/strong> are the easiest to experience during the day: Renaissance market, village, jousting, knight fights and medieval atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n

It’s a very visual outing, perfect for discovering the history of Brussels<\/strong> in a different way.<\/p>\n\n

Why go with children?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ommegang<\/strong> works very well as a family because history comes alive<\/strong>. Children see costumes, horses, standards, characters, knights, musicians and folk groups parade through the centre of Brussels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the youngest, the activities of the Sablon<\/strong> are the easiest to organise. You can spend the day there, enjoy the atmosphere, watch the jousting and discover the Renaissance market<\/strong> without necessarily staying too long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For older children<\/strong> and teenagers, the historical procession and the show on the Grand-Place<\/strong> are the most spectacular moments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What to see during the Ommegang<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The highlight of the Ommegang<\/strong> is the historical show on the Grote Markt<\/strong>. It reconstructs the entry of Charles V<\/strong> and his son Philippe<\/strong> into Brussels, in an exceptional setting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The historic procession<\/strong> crosses the centre of Brussels before reaching the Grand-Place<\/strong>. It’s a good way to enjoy the atmosphere of the Ommegang, with the costumes, horses, musicians and characters, without necessarily booking a seat in the grandstand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Sablon<\/strong>, the free festivities allow you to discover the Renaissance market<\/strong>, the craftsmen, the jousting, the knights’ fights and the medieval atmosphere. This is the easiest part to experience with children during the day. <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
